Nurses in these settings mustiness overcome loving barriers in order to build a trusting, caring nurse-nursed relationship. Courage is needed to stand with these unique people during difficult situations and provide the empowering care they deserve. Utilizing caring inventions such as Falk-Rafaels (2001) empowering concept and Smiths (1999) caring scheme Zerwehk (2000) identifies three themes for courageously and fearlessly caring for this special class of people: the humans Connection, the Community Connection and Making Self-Care mathematical (2000). Zerwehk was inspired by Rays phenomenological ap proach to show the lived experience of caring, the social occasion is to learn anew the valet of caring, not that previously encoded (Zerwehk, 2000) in her article entitled, Caring on the Ragged Edge: Nursing Persons Who Are Disenfranchised (Zerwehk, 2000). Zerwehk interviewed 7 nurses with various stages of education ranging from interrelates degree up to Masters degree in nursing. The areas of exercising of these nurses include community health, school nursing, noetic health, critical care, oncology and health promotion. By dialoguing with these nurses Zerwehk captured the essence of caring on the ragged edge (2000) and summarized around those experiences in her article. The ages of the nurses ranged from 39 to 63 years old with from 11 years of nursing practice to 35 years. Clients of these nurses were often expound as separated or that have been abandoned and feared by their communities. Many of these clients were homeless, Aids patients or mentall y ill.
