'Christina Rossetti Essay\r'
'During this essay I go out be comparing two poetrys, both indite by women, and both have same theme, the poems were compose a century apart and are write roughly woman who were taken return of by a man, both women in the poems become gravid and keep the tiddler. The poem ââ¬Å" first cousin Kateââ¬Â was written in the nineteenth century by a poet named Christina Georgina Rossetti, it portrays a story of chastity and double standards. It demonstrates how life was for women working(a) in jobs such as a initiative in the eighteen hundreds, and how higher figures in indian lodge apply their wealth and status to take advantage of them.\r\nA master tricks the wetnurse into having sex, and gets her expectant, indeed after marries her ââ¬Å"Cousin Kateââ¬Â, who sack up non have children, ââ¬Å"Yet Iââ¬â¢ve a gift you have not got, and seem not like to get. ââ¬Â She speaks kindly of Kate at the beginning and then gets bitter by verse 5. The maid knows that the lord would give everything he had to have a child and she is not sorry for what happened because the lord was not trustworthy to her and used her. Even though she is the victim she is the superstar that the neighbors call ââ¬Å"an outcast thingââ¬Â Where as her cousin Kate is spoken of as ââ¬Å"good and pureââ¬Â and because Cousin Kate did not have sex with the lord he married her.\r\nI think that the poet has included a few sub texts in this poem and in each case has written a few play on words like She was ââ¬Å"hardened by solarize and airââ¬Â and her son is the lords moreover son thence he is the heir to all of the lord belongings, debark and wealth, and she wouldnââ¬â¢t give her child up for any of it, because she knows one day her son will inherit it, when the lord dies. Eileen McAuley wrote ââ¬Å"The seductionââ¬Â in the 1980ââ¬â¢s and I personally think that something similar to what happens in this poem happened to her, even though it is written in ternion person.\r\nThe male character in this poem makes no effort to woo the teenage little girl, he gives her vodka and duologue about himself, he then travels her to a riverbank and seduces her. Before this, the girl used to read magazines about romance and fashion and it quotes ââ¬Å"Where a stranger could lead you to new worlds, and how would you know if you never took a see? ââ¬Å". The girl was influenced by romantic thoughts, she had her own ideas, and the male child thought of it as just sex, the same as ââ¬Å"Cousin Kateââ¬Â this girl was lured and tricked into sex, and the neighbors say ââ¬Å"she always looked the faceââ¬Â.\r\nIn ââ¬Å"Cousin Kateââ¬Â the maid was seduced by wealth and status, and in ââ¬Å"The Seductionââ¬Â the girl was seduced by alcohol and led on by the reading of magazines such as ââ¬Å"My guyââ¬Â and ââ¬Å"Jackieââ¬Â. Both poems speak of the girls strident alone, ââ¬Å"Even so I sit and whine in dustâ â¬Â and ââ¬Å"She sobbed in the cool, locked in the immorality of her room. ââ¬Â But where as in ââ¬Å"The Seductionââ¬Â the boyish girl cries because of all the innocents and fun she has missed the maid in ââ¬Å"Cousin Kateââ¬Â Cries because of the mistake she made of sleeping with the lord before they were married.\r\nBoth of these poems portray the women to be naive and innocent. Both characters (The Maid & The juvenile Girl) feel betrayed by the men, in ââ¬Å"The Seductionââ¬Â the poet writes about how the girl has missed out on junior things like Glossy horoscopes, ââ¬Å"Full of fresh result diets â⬠how did she feel betrayed? ââ¬Â and in ââ¬Å"Cousin Kateââ¬Â the poet writes about how if she could attach the lord now she wouldnââ¬â¢t have and how her intensions were on the whole honorable but he just used her and discarded her, ââ¬Å"I would have spit into his face, and not have taken his handââ¬Â .\r\nIn conclusion, both of thes e poems show how society looks down on pregnant young girls, and how times really havenââ¬â¢t changed over 100 years, it also demonstrates how in the 19th century a young poor girl could be seduced by wealth and status and alleviate this happens in the 21st century.
